Were you ever in an “Easy as a Sunday Morning” state of mind? Better yet, an Easy as a Sunday Morning British car gathering in which weather and friends make for a perfect time? Every year the Positive Earth Drivers Club holds such a gathering on Father’s Day morning and every time, in I can’t tell you how many years, around 50 or more British cars show up and share challenges and tell of dragons slain.
Looking forward every year to this easy morning, my Healey was well prepared and ready to go. Starting down the road, however, I noticed a shake in the front wheel I hadn’t noticed before so I turned back to the garage to do some quick evaluation. Deciding to put further diagnosis to another day but concluding it probably was a wheel bearing/adjustment or tie rod, I decided to take my (slightly modified) ’79 TR7 with 3-point seatbelts that can easily accept a car seat and my 4 year old grandson and I were off to the gathering.
The morning was perfect and the gathering was enjoyable but my grandson was getting tired in all that sun and grown-ups talk. Leaving just before lunch, he promptly fell asleep in the car on the ride home, traffic was relatively light and free moving (for a weekend at the Jersey shore remember) and the car performed flawlessly. Arriving home, I drove into the garage and shut everything down. Pleased with the day so far, my grandson and I walked to meet my wife and his brothers and sisters when I could see considerable amounts of oil had followed on the road and down the drive into the garage. Since there was no indication on the half hour run home, I reignited the engine to now see the oil pressure light showing brightly. Switching off the engine again and with no idea as to the issue or its cause, I decided to sit back and consider the day.
2 British cars, 2 unexpected Faults, and 2 safe and comfortable returns home… what ever the problems, still that Easy as a Sunday Morning. I have always contended that a British car will always give you something to think about and my farther often stated that the difference between work and a hobby is, if you’ve got to do it …. It’s work. On this day, keeping my farther in mind, I am inclined to agree with Peggy Lee that “manana, manana, manana is good enough for me”
.
Enjoy an EASY as a Sunday Morning,
