Ha! Yes, I had this coming but work with me here.

Trying to help a friend with a Doretti project, so found him a flywheel and was going to help him with a proper starter. No worries, I have one that will be fine. Oh, wait. Is that for the MGA that is in bits or the TR3?

My brain is telling me that these units are the same but that could just be the jet lag talking.

Yes, I will label better in the future (which I am usually very good about actually).

Have a picture by chance of the correct starter?

Here is a typical pre-TS50K 'bullnose' starter, I think the Doretti would use this type:

Just thinking out loud....does it matter what flywheel Tom bought regarding the type of starter? Not sure but I think I recall that the started engages the flywheel differently from the early to later starter?

Cheers,

Tush! How are you man?

Yes, starter is different I think. Not my stuff, trying to help friend out restoring a Doretti.

Both the flywheel and the bellhousing are different for the early bullnose starter. IIRC the early flywheel is press-on and the bellhousing lacks the bulge needed by the later starter.

Later bellhousing would work with early starter. For that matter, I have driven for 30 years with the late flywheel and the early starter but that isn't recommended.
