TR6 76 TR6 Brakes too tight

I replaced the wheel cylinders, brake shoes, brake hoses, and all new hardware on my 76 TR6. But even adjusted all the way loose I am unable to turn the wheels by hand. I loosened the screws that hold the brake drums on and I can then turn the wheels. I have had the drums off multiple times but I don't see anything wrong. All parts from Moss Motors.

Any ideas?

There is a small adjusting screw for the wheel cylinder on the back of the wheel. It’s about 1/4” square and adjusts the brake shoes. I tighten the screw until I can’t rotate the wheel, then back the screw out so wheel rotates.

Try what Elliot suggests--that may well solve the problem.

If not...it's common for the brake shoes made these days not to fit well. If you can't get them right with adjustment, you may have to file a little off the ends that fit into the adjuster. BE CAREFUL--there isn't a lot of room between too tight and too loose.

I found the same problem with the tr3. New stuff today is thicker. If you have the e-brake off and the adjuster back all the way plus you can get the drum on then put the tire on for more leverage. Now see if you can turn the tire and drum. If you can, then turn the tire around by hand a few times to see how much drag. Sometimes the newness falls off that way plus sometimes pushing on brake pedal with the drum and tire on will align the shoes. If not, sand some off like Sarastro suggested.

the brake drums turn less freely when the screws that secure them are tight. I think the shoes may be too wide.

I replaced the moss brake shoes that were too wide with a set from the TRF. All new springs, clips, and cylinders. When initially set up the wheels spin. But then after applying the brakes they do not release. Any ideas?

Check the leading and trailing shoes..
If you are unsure of what I'm referring to, see the illustration in the Haynes manual and notice the space left on the shoes by the lining and that as related to the direction of drum rotation...that shows you what I'm talking about.
