Finished my alternator and tachometer conversion

My car is a 1967 Midget with 60k miles.
I ordered a used Mazda RX-7 alternator on E Bay, ($20)and picked up a Mr Gasket chrome GM alternator swoosh bracket, ($10)and a new fan belt, 1 1/2 inches longer than stock. I went to Lowes and bought a brass 5/16" plumber's nipple pipe (6 inches). I used an eight inch, grade 8, 5/16" bolt, cut the brass nipple to correct lengths and threaded the 8" bolt through the original generator bracket and through to the water pump bolt hole. I may change to a 3/8 bolt later, but right now, this seems very strong. I'll include some pictures very soon, but I'm extremely pleased with both looks and function. The brass nipple pipe really sets the conversion off nicely. My ignition lamp works correctly, stays on initially and goes out when engine is first revved. I installed a volt meter I also bought on E Bay for $10. The voltmeter has a black face and chrome bezel. Looks very stock and reads 14.2 volts. Last year, I installed a bug eye dash in my 1967 Midget and the new voltmeter is installed where the temp/oil pressure gauge was previously. I made another gauge hole for the oil pressure/water temp gauge. The water temp flex line and oil pressure lines now go straight out to a logical location on the firewall.
For my tachometer, I used a later RVI tach which was already negative ground.(also it was the smaller tach) I pulled the needle and face plate from my old tach, installed these on the small RVI tach, (perfect fit) and Viola'. My old tach case had to be modified slightly to allow the new tach plug wiring (one male and one female and the power pin) to fit, but everything else including the rear tach mounting screw holes for the case is a perfect fit. Tach works perfectly. Be sure to ground the case of the tach. I'll include some pictures soon, but this was an easy, cheap, weekend project. Just add some oldies music and a cold beer.

Re: Finished my alternator and tachometer conversi

I drive over to Aiken, SC at least once a month. I eat at New Moon cafe, watch some flying at the new airport and hang out. My favorite little town. Very nice community.
