Door Seals To Bristleflex or not to Bristleflex

To Bristleflex or not to Bristleflex, that is the question.
Now that I talked myself into TRF Shadow Blue tufted nylon carpet, the door seals are crying to me. The current ones are cloth covered and have a seal like the bristleflex, that is not a round tube seal, but a blade.
The Bristleflex is in stock but the Wool Moquette is not. And it is a bulk order that is back order so who knows.
Anyone else need shadow blue?

What does this bristleflex look like and for those who have used it, how do you like it?
I tried a search and only found Julian post when he was working his seal issue.

Not sure if they are the same for a TR6; but I bought Bristleflex seals from Martin Macgregor for my Stag. They look very nice. The part the door crushes is not fuzzy, only the part exposed in the car.

Somewhere I've got samples I could maybe photograph this weekend, if you don't find pictures before then.

Not sure how best to describe the fuzzy part, except to say that it is very short, fine bristles, arranged so they stand vertically away from the surface until you touch them. The result is a nap, a bit like velour but it stands up better.

I plan to order more for the second Stag.

His web site is seriously out of date; I got samples of the "appearing soon" colors back in spring 2005. Best to call by phone to see what he has & what it costs.

Re: Door Seals To Bristleflex or not to Bristlefle

Thanks, I called and left a message.
I agree the part the door crushes is plain, that's the blade to me.
Is the bristle made from cloth or ? What color do you have?
How long have they been installed?
The more pictures the better.
Thanks

Randal,

I removed one of the Bristle seals to install the wiring
harness. Is it possible to reinstall it? I can't seem to figure it out?

Thanks,

d

I received the MacGregor price list along with a sample of Bristleflex for my AH. Quality product! His flyer lists availability for TR6, Spit, GT6 and Stag with a note to ask for cars not listed. Also supplies in 8 colors. As stated in other threads, the inside finish resembles velour and the outer seal is a blade rather than a bulb type (at least in the AH application). Bob

Re: Door Seals To Bristleflex or not to Bristlefle

The Moss photo in their catalogue of bristleflex is very accurate: the stuff I received looks just like the photo. I could take a very-close-up photo of my seals if it would help?

The quality is excellent. One of my doors had what appears to be a cheap seal, not fuzzy, and comparatively down-market, when I do a side-by-side comparison.

I haven't fitted the seals yet, so can't comment on ease of fitting.

Ok, these didn't come out so hot, but maybe they'll be helpful.

Should be, if you didn't damage it taking it off. There are two sections joined together, the fuzzy part is U-shaped and slides over a metal seam. If you pulled it off the seam without separating the rubber bulb/lip from it, then it should push back on with no trouble.

The U-shaped part has a metal core, so if it's too loose on the seam, you can crush the metal a bit with your fingers or careful application of pliers.

Randall: Great pics of the fuzzy stuffs. What's on
my car is the non-fuzzy version; hence, guys would
discuss "the fuzzy" part and left me with no real sure
clue as to what they were talking about.
Thanks for making this (rather simple) issue much
more lucid by taking the time.

Cheers.

Randall
The last picture does it all justice. MacGregor's did not call back and I was to busy to call them. Maybe tomorrow. Thanks for the pictures.

Martin Macgregor is a one-man operation; when he's out at a show or whatever there is no one left to answer phones. ISTR it took him over a week to return my call the first time; but he did eventually call me back (and told me where he had been).
