TR2/3/3A TR3 Door seals

Another question for the experts.

How does the seals go on around the doors? I see a rubber seal that goes on the bottom, does it go on the bottom of the door or on the sill? What type of glue do you use to do this?

Also does the furflex go all the way around the door or only up the sides? It looks like you use contact cement to glue this down?

Sorry for all the questions but it doesn't always explain some of this in the manuals I have as well as I am working on someone else's car and either there have been changes made along the way or some stuff is so far gone I can't tell how it goes.

The seal is mounted on the bottom of the door by a several small metal clips that attach to the base of the seal. The metal clips then are inserted into the holes (approximately 1/4" diameter) that are in the bottom of the door. These may have been filled in with body filler if you don't see them. There has been some recent discussion that replacement seals don't often compress sufficiently to allow the door to close. Here is a link to that discussion you might find helpful:

There is also a seal mounted on the upper part of the "A" pillar in the same matter. It is about about 12" long. I would suggest that you let the rubber "relax" for about a week after you install it before you trim to fit.

The furflex goes on the "A" and "B" pillars. An aluminum trim piece covers the joint of the sills along the base of the door frame and is held in place by sheet metal screws.

The fur flex goes just front and back. It staples at the back and screws at the front with the carpet reinforcement.

The lower seal goes on the door, BUT! If it is a repo, it will not fit. The new seals are too thick to let the doors close...at all! If you have to try it, like I did, then they are held with a bunch of small clips. Also of note, even with the proper original seals, these clips will pull out and scratch the sill and door before you realize they are loose. Bummer!

Actually, all lower seals should be left out on the 3's...otherwise when it rains the leaks will overpower the drains...and you may not be able to pull over before you drown....

Not sure which seals you mean. here are some photos of the bottom edge seal. This is a special "modified" seal that I discuss in another post.
