100-6 BN4 door seals

Just put the Moss door seal kit into the BN4. This is the early style with the three pieces of seal that fit into little aluminum tracks. But, now I can't close the doors! The seals seem overly large and stiff. What have other folks found when using this seal set?

Thanks,

Paul B.

Do your door seals look like mine in these photos. These were taken of the passengers door. I too had a very hard time closing the doors after installing these seals until I realized I had them backwards. Then I thought I was screwed because I had already cut and mitered them to fit, but realized I could exchange them from the drivers door to the passengers door and they would be cut correctly. I hope this is your problem.

Ahh! Well, I must thank you VERY much "Healey Blue" because I see from your photos that I too put all the seals on backwards! I'm glad you thought of swapping seals side to side, VERY clever! Thank you so much. Time for a bit of seal removal. Nuts!

Paul- I have been wrestling with my door seals too and came to a eureka moment today. The bottom seal isn't supposed to seal against the face of the door trim but against the lower edge of it. This was the problem I couldn't figure out for the last two weeks as the doors were being pushed out at the bottom when shut.

What I did was pretty much shut my head in the door several times and then it came to me- all I had to do was slot the holes a little in the lower seal track so it could drop down about 3/16" at the front and suddenly all was well because the rubber was now sufficiently below the door that the lip could fold over as it is intended to. Previously the whole seal was trying to squash into the tiny gap between the door trim and the aluminum trim plate. It really made my day finding that.

Hmm. I may have to try that. I re-installed the door seals the correct way today, but they still don't fit. I can't close the door without slamming it, and even then the door no longer is aligned with the rest of the bodywork. Moss parts.....

Are the aluminum trim panels new Moss parts? If so they may be contributing to the problem. They were in my case.

No, my seal tracks are the originals. The doors lined up perfectly with the odd crushed/perished seals, so, mayne I need to adjust them now that there are new seals. Still, the new seals seem to be thicker and just over all larger, but the old ones may have shrunk, or, the new ones aren't made correctly. So Healeyblue, once you had your seals correctly installed, the doors closed easily and well?

I am not referring to the seal tracks. My problem was the aluminum finishing panels that the seal track screw on top of. The new ones from Moss did not sit all the way flush with the inner rocker which effectively moved the seals outward towards the door almost a 1/4 of an inch. Once the seals were rotated and the aluminum panels were beat flush (remove one screw at a time and use a wood block to hit with a hammer to reshape the panel then put the screw back and repeat on the next screws) then the doors closed smoothly and the seals are properly seated. I am attaching a couple pics showing how little room there is with the door closed so all this needs to be right.
