Door Glass came loose...

Went to roll down the window on passenger side today on my way to lunch, this side usually goes down easily. Turned the crank, all of the sudden the crank turns but the window doesn't go with it... The glass is loose in the door now.

I've got the usual manuals to assit but me with repair but I'm looking for the voice of experience here. Can anyone provide tips?

Thanks,

Marvin

don't know that there's much to talk about until you remove the panel and look inside. from past experience, if the mech is tight it's usually dried or no grease. i believe there is an adjustment bolt that could have come loose. should be fairly straight forward once you get inside.

Got it apart, window is out, can't see how the window attaches to the lower track, suggestions?

Jockey it around a bit so the rollers slip into the channel at the cut out. It does go in but it's one of those try and try again then walk away and all of a sudden it just pops in real simple like.

I've re-seated the window in the lower channel but when rolling window down the track pulls away from the window. It rolls up very smoothly with little effort. Now, it seems, I have to push the window down while turning the crank to avoid the seperation. I'm leery about using any adhesive. What to do, what to do...

since that's a pressure fit, i would imagine the window is not competely seated on the lower rail. if you have determined that the window is seated, then you might try tightening the low rail. i would also check the travel of the window to be sure it moves up and down smoothly.

Marvin - probably what happened is that the Glazing Strip (#13 in Moss catalog on pages 54 & 55) has become brittle and shrunk. The glazing strip holds the glass to the Lower Channel (#12 on the same pages). This is common on old Fords I have restored. You can go to your local auto glass shop and they can install new glazing strip material or you can get some from them and install it yourself. If you want the glass shop to do it bring them the glass and the channel. Hope this helps.
