BE axle flange hub screws

Putting the rearend back together and noticed that the three holes for the flange screws are different. One is countersunk enough for the head of the screw to sit flush while the other two leave the head exposed. I am bolting on WW flanges and they need to sit flush.

Why are the holes different? What is their purpose? Surely I can leave two out? :confuse:

One screw goes underneath the drum and holds the half-shaft in place. The other two are screwed through the drum.

Painfully obvious when I looked at the drum. On to the next problem. The folks I purchased the ww adapter plates from said to use WW studs. Naturally, they are not long enough. Kind of a pain to change out wheel studs with the hubs on the car. Luckily none of the brake innards are installed and I can feed them through the backing plate where the cylinder goes. Hopefully I wont overtorgue the spare bolts seating them inplace. Cant see any other way to do it without pulling the hubs.

Could have dry fit the hubs, brake drums and ww hubs before assembly but it never occurred to me that they would be too short. Was over excited about getting the powdercoated housing and all the new shiny black and silver pieces together under the car. Kinda fun turning rusted, greasy junk back to shiny, clean and new(er). Need to remember, measure twice cut once (applies in the metal garage too).

Saving the super glue for the engine install.
