What impact, if any, from floppy PCV neck

Hi guys - my Bugeye has a 1098 in it with, and with that comes a PCV unit. The way it is currently mounted to the car has a short rubber neck/tube that attaches the PCV assmebly the valve cover, and the rubber is pretty floppy and most likely cracked. So I need to repalce that obvisouly, but I'm wondering what impact if any air leaks there would have on how the car runs?

Only later 1098s had one. Mine doesn't. Maybe the '64 and after 1098CC version did while the earlier 1098CG did not.

DON'T get rid of it!!! (the PCV at least)
That valve will help tremendously on lessening (I didn't say eliminate) the oil leakage from your engine but that is ONLY if both of the hoses connecting it to the rest of the engine are in good shape.
If the hose from the PCV to the manifold is leaking then you will have a very tough time getting a good idle (vacuum leak). If the other one is leaking you will just have a little less vacuum on the crankcase and a little more oil on the ground.
I have always used 1/2" heater hose for the connections which is against all recommendations but it always held up until I sold the car (did you say that you are in San Diego? maybe one of my sales is coming back to haunt the Forum)

Thanks guys - good info and clearly something that belongs on the to-do list. That helps explain my erratic idle.

No need to worry Bill, I'm in Orange County and I bought the car out of San Luis Obispo so you're safe!

She's a 1960 so I'm not running much by way of controls, but I will make sure what is there is working properly.

as an aside, my car was bought new in San Luis Obispo - wish I could find out more about the dealer (accurate name escapes me right now but something like British Sports Cars )
