Vapor Lock and carbs...

Continuing on my vapor-lock question (from the fuel line thread), thought I'd start another one. Are those standard carburettor heat-shield panels usually effective if one has a large exhaust header under them? I haven't explored how warm the float-bowls are getting or anything else in that area is, but I guess I'm wondering if this is ever a problem. Yes, I'm still investigating my fuel line and filter (and that filter is too close so I've done an experimental wrapping with heat-tape). I shall be re-routing the fuel line (and probably changing it to another material). [1275cc, dual HS2s and new electronic fuel pump at that tank]
Thanks.

Can't speak to the shield (though it looks fine) but it is my understanding that one of the advantages of a header is that it runs cooler than the original manifold.

Well I have a similiar problem though its on my 1500 datsun conversion with a single HS6. I can see the fuel bubbling in my clear fuel filter. I'm wondering if running a higher pressure pump with a regulator close to the carb might cure it.

Mark I think when you reroute your system that you should put the filter closer to the carbs and then it would be farther from the heat source. Also could your filter be plugged?

Just a couple of idea's.

Kurt.

Thanks Kurt. I hope you're right. The filter is new... but maybe it's not good.

Hey, just for fun, I'm going to warm the car up and point my infrared, laser-guided thermometer at various points and see how hot/warm they REALLY are. Might be enlightening.

Ok, here is the drill. Fuel line comes as you have it along frame. However. it should turn and go up at the motor mount out side the heat shield. Filter should be above the motor mount just up from the bottom of the heat shield kind of over the shock body. Line should then proceed up the heat shield keeping away from engine side to just above the intake manifold turn and proceed to carbs. Line should be mounted on stand off clips to hold it away from the manifold.

Your heat shield looks great, your fuel bowls should be fine.

If you need a pic I can go take one.
