Thermostat Housing

Does anyone know if the thermostat housing from a 1967 MGB will fit on a 1973 MGB? I was asked by a good friend and I told him I did not know but that the engine was basically the same and it probably would fit. Thanks everyone!

Thanks, but I know they are different parts. One has a bracket to hold the smog pump and one does not.

Jim, The outlets are physically interchangeable, just no air pump mount, and the hose orientation may be different.
According to the VB catalog, they are selling the European outlet for the '68-'74 that should work.

And, from the link that I gave you, it shows that there's a different part number for with and without the bracket.

According to Moss, the 67 has an 18GB engine, while the 73 has an 18V. From the Moss catalog there's one model for the 18G/GA/GB and another for the 18GF to 18V engines along with a separate part number for one without the bracket.

I've found Moss to be very friendly on the phone and willing to help you determine what exactly you need - you might try giving them a call to clear it up.

They're probably all interchangable but as Jeff mentioned earlier, the hose orientation is different. The early cars had the upper radiator hose connection on the right of the radiator (viewed from the driver's seat) and the later ones were to the left.

If someone wants to replace the "air pump" housing with the non-emission version, Moss et al sell the "European" version that faces the right way. I have bought a couple of these in the last few years and found the quality to be variable. One casting was so poor it was unusable.
