Seatbelt install points

I need to install seatbelts in my Bugeye and don't know where the best points are to locate the anchoring bolts. The engine and transmission will be out soon so I can get to many areas that are normally hard to get to. Where should I locate the bolts and any reinforcement suggestions are very welcome? I am leaning toward the two point belts, but would like to hear about pros and cons on those.

In each corner behind the seats. Easy to roll um up and forget em when they are there. Belts in my opionin in a Bugeye protect you from nothing. Everything is too close.

Seat belts are not required on Bugeyes in my state. They were not on the orginal and they are antique. No belts required on anything before 1967 in Florida.

I have em but never use them. Guess I would if I was giong to use Miss Agatha as a daily, however.........

I'm considering 3pt (non-retractable) on my Bugeye. Having never driven without a seatbelt, I think I'd feel naked without one.

Being from the old school, long before seat belts in other than airplanes and race cars I have to think about useing them. My kids and grandkids do it without thinking.

Will the third leg not attach to the wheel well hump?

I'm probably going to weld a anchor point and reinforcing plate in the area similar to my Midget.

I would expect a very large washer on each side would be more than sufficiant.

This car is going to be a daily driver and sometime autocrosser. I grew up without seatbelts, but since they have become law in NC and I got used to wearing them, I would feel odd without one. I use them on my BJ8 and wrongly or rightly, feel a bit safer while wearing one. I am leaning toward the "vintage" belts sold by Moss. Has anyone had any problems with those?

Not at all, I have nice red vintage ones from Moss rolled up in each corner.

Does anyone know off hand what the thread/ bolts size is off the excisting seat belt holes (is the transmission tunnel and sill the same?). I need to go and get bolts and maybe a tap to clean them.

Bugeye just used a drill and any old bolt that comes with the belts.

Use a dedicated round "eye bolt" with a large washer on the backside. If the car came with tapped holes, once again, use the "eye" bolts with the proper threads (no washer required). (This is assuming your seat belts have clip hooks at the ends. Some require a split pin (cotter) to hold them together.) And remember, the threads are US fine. The only Whitworth threads are on the carbs.

US fine, otherwise called SAE fine and course.

7/16 fine, That might be 7/16 x 20, not positive but all seatbelts are standard and use that bolt.
