Rear wheel cylinder replacement question BT7

I cannot figure out how to put the new the new
rear wheel cylinders onto the backing plates. Is there a trick to getting the two slidding clips to go on the cylinder with the new rubber seals and the emergency brake lever?

I must be doing something wrong.

THanks Scott

Thanks for the help last week with getting the rebuilt rear hubs back on.

I remember having a little problem with sliding the clips on myself. Yes there is a method to installing them correctly.

Don't try and bend them as they are quite brittle and will break.

One of them has a raised lip that the other slides up to. Put the one with the raised lip (stop) in first all the way, then slide the other on top of it, may have to tap with a small hammer. I used some lubricant on them and on the rubber seal as well, usually they slid right in. Remember, once installed the wheel cylinder should be able to slide a bit.

Put a little grease under the cylinder 'skid pads,' too. Like Johnny said, the cylinders need to be able to slide--the braking action is self-reinforcing ('servo').

Here's a photo of how mine came apart. Can't say for sure this is correct, but it works.

I love the picture.

I do not seem to be able to get the bottom one on as the hand brake lever is in the way. That is where I get stuck at.

I power coated my backing plate and I think the hole that the wheel cyl goes through is now too tight. All I can think is that maybe I need to cut out the coating in that hole and the cyl will slide better???

Plus it looks like both your clips are facing the same way. I am trying to put mine in from different directions? Maybe I am wrong. ????

Ummmmmmmmmm, I can't remember the orientation. There are two tangs that face up on the bottom clip. These interlock with the top piece as shown in this new photo.
