Re: Looking to buy my 1st B--how does this one loo
Kandace - don't rush too quickly to buy the first MGB you see...& definitely don't jump out & buy something you don't think he'd like....there are tons of good ones out there...you're getting tossed so many options that you might be getting heady - or at least getting an MGB rush....don't!! & on every BBS I go to, people are being asked to run here & there to look at MG's for you - MG's that probably aren't anywhere near what he'd want!
Some of us know alot about these cars & have been playing with them for most of our lives - others of us just jumped into the hobby with both feet and are still learning...before you take any ill-conceived (though genuinely offered) advice from one of us, you probably need to figure out whether he wants a chrome or rubber bumper, whether he wants to jump in & drive or tinker, how far you want to search from home for a car....&, regardless of what you decide, don't buy it until somebody who has owned more than a couple of MG's looks it over for you - even if you have to pay an appraiser to do so....
My daughter recently gave her husband a new Lexus for his birthday - she knew which one he wanted (the new LS350 or some such number) & that they weren't even at the dealers yet, they were so new....she even knew the colors he wanted....so, she gave him the bill of sale (or whatever you get from a dealer when you buy a new car), the sales brochure & name of ship it was en route to the US on....I think he had more fun tracking it from Japan to Florida to B'ham & actually picking it up than were he driving it....maybe you could give him a copy of The Original MGB with a "gift certificate" worth up to $7,500 for him to pick the MG of his choosing....that way you bot could take a few short weekend trips to look them over!
Just my 2-cents worth, FWIW.
