Was wondering if anyone has purchased a set of the Konig's and how satisfied you are. Where can I get the best deal?

Thanks

I've not purchased any, but they are quite well thought of in the Miata world.

I believe that there are several members here who use them. I'm sure someone will pop up to answer you over the weekend.

Just a week ago, while doing a web search on American Silverstones was provided with a link to the current American Wheel company. They are reusing the name Silverstone and have brought back a similar retrodesign like the ones available on TR4's in the 60's. Although the center is more similar to current designs like panasports, etc., the rim / spoke design is just like the originals. The outer rim being polished (as the originals) while the spokes appears to be painted or coated. Amazingly they offer a 4 inch rim, but then jump to 6 for the next size in 15 inch wheels. I suspect the 4's would be a special order. I believe the model number was 401, the 2 piece wheel. Guess the hubcap is the second piece. Asked for a quote yesterday but have not received an answer yet. The price on the one piece wheel, which only comes in a 7 inch rim was less than the panasports from various suppliers.

Got 'em, use 'em and am quite pleased with the looks and road performance of the wheel/tire combination. My set up consists of 205/70/15 on 7" width Konigs.

Three caveats, however, you should be aware of before purchasing;

1. The 15" x 7" size will interfere with the upper ball joint (or more likely) the fixing hardware on the stock TR6 suspension. The interference will occur at full lock (either right or left) to the inner bead of the wheel or a clip-on wheel weight causing the the wheel weight to rotate cleanly around it's attachment to the bead.
To minimise this effect requires either grinding (relieving) prominent areas of the ball joint itself or the attaching hardware including the front or rear upper A-arms.
This is not a job for the squeamish nor has it cured the interference issue completely.

2. You will need to have machined (locally) a larger set of steering stops to preclude complete turn in and further minimise the chance of interference.

3. The last recommendation is the simplest: Do not turn the wheels to full lock especially moving in reverse.

The last two suggestions will increase your turning radius, not something you particularly desire.

For me this remains a work in progress and I will be not satisfied until I can turn the front wheels without fear of contact. That however will take further consultation with my machinist and some seat of the pants engineering related to that upper ball joint.

If there is a simple fix out there I have yet to hear of it.

Okay. Long story short. You should investigate the possibility of purchasing the newly available 16" Konigs. These may provide the necessary clearance without any of the previously described machinations and certainly simplify your post purchase life.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Regarding the new American Racing Silverstones, Their current trend in manufacturing is to cast the centers then weld them to the rim. Hence the 2 piece designation. A lot of the wheel manufacturers seem to be doing this. You'll see a similar approach on "Overhaulin" where they machine the centers and weld them to the rim.

I bought a set of Super Minilites that are machined and set up for racing but my TR6. For use only on the street. These are strong wheels with a polished rim and duplicates of the British Minilites. If you buy the TR6 decals and put them on the centers it really perks them up. In-addition Pack Racing ships the lug nuts and center caps free with the wheels which is a adder at the other British Parts Suppliers. They are also very affordable from Pack Racing Products (866) 855-3473

While on this topic I am will be in the market for wheels in the coming year. Existing steel wheels are warped.

I want 15x6's. What is the correct hub spacing, offset and backspacing? Want to know in case I spot a set that might listed for a "Z" but fit my 73 "6" just as well.

The Superlites from Pack Racing are 15x6 with a +3 offset which is a 91mm (3.6") back space. I have them on my TR6 and have no problems at all. Hope this helps.
