Horn Relay

I have just purchased a 1976 Triumph TR6 and the previous owner had installed a Mountney steering wheel. The horn on the car did not work so I checked and found the brush component was missing. I have ordered and received that part but don’t know how to make everything work. It appears that all I have to do is screw in the brush component into the hole at the base of the steering wheel but there’s obviously more to it than that. One more thing, the brush component I received appears to be too long to fir correctly under your horn push. What length should the brush be?

Do you have any detailed instructions on mow to make your horn push work in this setup? I would greatly appreciate your help.

Shawn--The brush is supplied in 2 lengths: 2.6 (Moss 142534) and 3.4 (Moss 142534X) inches. Perhaps you have the 3.4 length and should return for the 2.6. Also, make sure the slip ring and relay are in good order.

Need a little help here - what exactly are the slip ring and relay?

The slip ring is a cylindrical black piece of plastic with a brass surface for the brush to ride on. A wire attached to the brass completes the low voltage circuit to the horn relay when you depress the horn button. The relay is attached to the left front inner wing with a pair of screws/nuts just ahead of the wiper motor. Hope this helps.
