Heater control valve. Suggestions?

I'd like to use a cable operated heater control valve so that I can modulate the heat to my liking on those chilly mornings that turn into warm afternoons. Better than diving under the hood for the ol' on-off valve. The hose diameter is rather small so the semi-common American types with their loud, obnoxious 5/8" fittings and flowered shirts will not work.

Any suggestions?

Sorry I can't be much help, but I would be interested to know what you come up with as I'm considering something like this on my J-H. It's taken me a year of ownership to figure out how the heater controls work, or rather don't work. My hose are 5/8ths though so I suspect my options are greater than yours.

Well, search on Ebay for heater control valve universal and also cable. 5/8" is pretty common. There is a kit on there with a cable, but any choke cable kit will do. Just put it inline with the heater hose that is most convenient and use the cable to open and close it.

Kit

inline valve

The Midget stuff is 1/2" I think? I wonder if this one is 1/2"?

As for a heater valve: I ~think~ i recall a clever substitute being a Ford F-150 HCV. circa: 1968. In-line, cable actuated.

IIRC that was a 1/2" in/out, same as the F-150... but I could be passin' more irrelevAnt bs there.

Also the stock valve for the '76 Volare/Aspen was an in-line, 1/2", cable operated unit but it seems to be out of production now (If anyone finds some I will buy a few!!)

Wasn't the Chrysler one plastic, Bill? The Ford unit is (or WAS) a metal bodied one, IIRC.

Honda has used heater valves on their cars since '73.
The older ones were metal, the newer ones plastic.
All cable operated. These parts are readily available at your friendly neighborhood Honda emporium.

Tell 'em I sent ya.

Problem that I found with the Honda valves is that everyone that I have found is a 90 degree unit and it is easier to use a straight one.
Is there a straight one that I haven't found yet?

Bill;
Check around the mid ninties Accords.
They are pretty much straight.
I think the Preludes of that vintage are also.
