Heater control valve. Suggestions?

IIRC that was a 1/2" in/out, same as the F-150... but I could be passin' more irrelevAnt bs there.

No, this sounds on topic.

Bill;
Check around the mid ninties Accords.
They are pretty much straight.
I think the Preludes of that vintage are also.

Dave

Thanks. Looking at those listed on Rockauto.com it seems that they are straight clear back to 1984. They do not list earliers ones. The Honda part looks nice.

As for a heater valve: I ~think~ i recall a clever substitute being a Ford F-150 HCV. circa: 1968. In-line, cable actuated.

Pix at Rockauto look like a nice part, and cheaper than the Honda. Next step is a trip to Pep Boys. Thanks!

Why not use a MGB setup??? Works real good for the B.
I think I saw it on a Midget here somewhere??? (somewhere on BCF)

So my prior deviant behavior is now forgiven?

This place is for the exchange of information. Sometimes it skews to "other" things...

In the end it comes down to what WORKS.

For elucidation:

As two foxes discuss their raids on th' farmer's henhouse:

Fox One: "So, how'd ya do?"

Fox Two: "Well, you know how it goes... sometimes chicken, sometimes feathers."

Hijack a thread and you leave yourself open to a silly pix. Ain't nothing to it, it's the roools O the internets. Now, I can't speak to any deviant behaviour, not being a witness to any such, and not likely to talk about it anyway, as my own would then be subject for reportage, but I can say that the cheeky pix I used seems to be suggestive of something. Perhaps it might say "if not this (blue pill), then this (unfortunate angularity)".

Excuse the commas. I've been ready Jefferson's speeches of late.

Speaking of unfortunate angularity, I just now discovered that there are two TO forks. One angled, one not. I used the wrong one last time. Too many parts, man.

We be of similar cloth, then...

I ain't look'd up that F-150 valve in at least a decade but suspect it'd hit th' mark.

...an' keep an eye to this latest Keppler thingie.

OH!!! and "Hijack" seems to be my central nomer.

The Keppler thingie that just went up?

Ayup.

How's THAT fer a hijack?!?! :jester:

Hold yer hat. I designed the solar cell and wiring layouts for the solar panels. An interesting and demanding job.

The dingus exists to find planets. On some planets there are people. And some of those people have parts. And some of those people have parts for sale.

Shipping's gonna be a bitch. :jester:

Re-hijacking this thread back toward the original question--
I just checked the Autozone website and found that the one that I had always believed to be correct, the 1976 Volare is NOT the correct type but the '65 Ford 150 truck does look correct and I just ordered one (just HOPE that it is 1/2" fittings!!)
Bill (thanks Doc!)

Paydirt. Use F100 instead of F150, and I chose 360 engine. At Pep Boys, it is Ready-Aire 5851 or 4-Seasons 74627. $19.99. Add a choke control cable assy for ten bux and yer done. Thanks again, Doc!

On edit: The valve is closed when the operating cable is pushed in, which is perfect. Pull the cable out to increase heat.

An alternative is to replace the stock heater line tap located on the head of the engine with a heater control valve from a Mini or I think a B.

If you disconnect the vent cable that runs to the fresh air shut off on the heater box you can use it to control the heater valve. Very snug fit (length wise) but you can just get enough slack to allow for motor movement. Of course you need to stay the fresh air shut off vane in the open position which mans you always have air flowing through the defroster but thats no biggy. When it's warm, shut off the temp valve.

Temp can now be controlled from in the cabin, no extra knobs sticking out from dash. All BL parts!

I've been thinking of bending the valve bracket so the handle sits such that I am able to have a simple pull knob in the glove box to adjust the flow.

Yesterday I received the valve for the '65 Ford F150-- WRONG!! it is 5/8".
Now I'll try the '68 F100 like I was SUPPOSED to do, hope it is 1/2".
Bill

--edit--
Just checked "Autozone.com" and ALL of the Ford trucks that I looked-up use a 5/8" valve, nothing is 1/2"? What gives??

Why is the diameter so critical?

For me, it wasn't. I installed mine today. The hose barbs are 5/8", but it worked out. It is tight, but if you take your time, use plenty of lube and work it slow, pulling out and applying more lube, you can make it work. Hey, stop with the snickering! You guys are so imature!

I did shorten the metal tube a bit. Basically I cut off the angled portion. I put the cable mount under the dash. I have not tried it yet because I have to finish the eng/trans install tomorrow.

Behold:

That's why I asked, seems to me you could force it on as you did, maybe a little heat on the hose with a heat gun or hair dryer would help the process.
BTW your heater box looks nice. I have mine at a powder coat place where it has been for almost 3 months! He says he's having trouble getting the powder to lay out nice where he touched up some rust pitting with JB Weld. I almost didn't do it since I had rattle can it and it looked fine but I thought I'd splurge for once. Never again.

Gee, Tom, that looks to be a proper MacGyver solution!

Oh, and profuse apologies for th' mis-info on the diameter... it's been a decade or so since I went searchin' for this 'fix'.

...Keppler's solar array, huh? You're havin' too much fun! I'm jealous.

"People"?!?! woof... I wuz hopin' for somethin' a bit more umm... exotic.
And smarter.

We watched it launch from th' front yard at th' hovel. Hope to see the shuttle lift this eve.
