OK, not exactly, but I had noticed that the engine wasn't spinning up as fast lately. I thought the valves might need a little adjusting, but they all seemed good. Then I noticed my alternator bracket was broken so I fixed it. After that, I decided to clean up the rest of the engine in case something else was loose or broken. After 30-40 minutes of wiping, I noticed the accelerator cable had slipped. The carb was not going to the full open position! So, a few minutes of adjustment and I'm back to full POWER! ... it is the little things in life.
Moral to the story: Even if your car is not a show car, take the time to clean the mechanicals because it will help you prevent breakdowns and discover items needing maintenance. (I'm glad I found the broken bracket before the lug snapped off the water pump)
