Found something new on a Healey engine

Attached is a picture of what looks like a sender unit that replaced a freeze plug in a Bj8 motor. I have never seen one of these before but it should work as a sender to a temperature gauge. Has anybody seen this in a Healey motor before?

There are two wires inside the slot.

I had one on my 62 Tri carb block . Its ablock heater connection
