E-Type rear radius arms

I'm taking the rear suspension out of our 67 E-Type so I can rebuild the brakes, and no doubt other things that I don't know about yet. I've been trying to persuade the front end of the radius arms to come loose from the body post. Twisting and swinging from them don't seem to work. Is there a better way to get them to come off?

I assume the inner part of the rubber bushing is a metal tube that slips over the body post and that there are no bolts holding it in place, except for the single bolt that goes into the body post. (This bolt came out easily with no sign of rust.)

Any help will be appreciated.

Make sure there's no carpet or other fabric above there in the car, and apply a liberal dose of heat from your friendly torch. It'll ruin the bushings but is probably the only way. I had to do mine that way, but was lucky in that I could do it "off the car"..... The mounts broke off but I knew the floors needed replacing anyway.

Where you need to pry is between the metal in the bushing and the cup that is mounted on the car. There is a tool , don't know the real name, we just call it a lady finger that usually works. If your car has the original bushings you'll probably have to grind the mounting hole out to get it to fit. I'll send you a picture of the tool off line . If that doesn't work use heat as someone sugested.

Bob and others,

Harbor Freight had a sale on those pry bars you recommended for removal of the radius arms. (I bought two sets at $5 per set of 4.)

The 6 inch pry bar head fit into the hole in the radius arm bushing and, with only modest persuasion with a lead hammer on the pry bar, the radius arm bushing came off the post. I did use some penetrating oil but it may not have been necessary. No rust was found on the posts.

Good suggestion you made.
