What is the best way to hold the spare tire firmly in place in the non-trunk of a BE? There is the "stock" 3 way strap in Moss that goes for about $40. Does that work? I don't really care about stock, I car about function on this.

As always, your ideas and especially experience are greatly appreciated.

Which leads to the next question, why carry a spare tire. How many motorcycles do you see traveling that carry one. I carried one ro 20 yrs before coming to this conclusion.

Kinda depends how dark and loanly the road is. Hehe.

I don't think I have used a spare tire in over 30 years.

You know that is a very good point. I don't have a spare for my Vespa. I don't have a spare for my 04 Mini Cooper S...and no it doesn't have run-flat tires because they were utterly unsatisfactory. Have new steel belted radails and it improves handling and harshness of ride significantly.

hmmm...but what am I going to do with the new Thor hammer my wife gave me for Christmas and the the wooden protective knock off wrench?

Also, I have AAA plus........so why do I have a spare? ...to fill the vast space behind the seats in the BE........

Went out and bought a spare for Miss Agatha today, hehe. $24 155/80R-13 at the Goodyear store.

Never expect to use it, it is just for looks mostly like shows.

Meh! I always carry a spare...get a flat (and I've had a few!), 20 min.later back on the road! Who wants to sit road-side for who-knows-how-long waiting for a tow/fix? (I also carry a modicum of "emergency" parts...even an old float needle that works is better than a new one that has failed to get you home!!)

O.K. I'm with you an Jack. I believe in being prepared...actually am an old Eagle Scout, so the spare stays and the Thor hammer and the wooden knockoff protector, and the car cover and the tow strap and a condensed set of tools.

Holy cow, Jack! And, it all looks new. Glad i'm not inflating a tire (tyre) with that pump...or lifting the car from the middle of the rocker panel with that jack.....what the heck is the big syringe for and that thing that looks like a tuning fork (for a piano, that is)???

That is a grease gun. The tire pump was an optional item from the dealer. The tuneing fork thing is actually a hub cap puller it kind of has a hook on the end.

Oh that is not mine, hehe, I have a jack stand and a lug wrench at present and am talking price for the other items but have said I want them. He has a hub cap puller, a grease gun, a jack wrench, a spark plug wrench, and a tire pump.

Mine, all mine, LOL.

I thought the metal rod tool was used for brake adjustment.

I saw that photo and though 'darn, that looks familiar'...

Jack, I've seen all the bits in the last year on Ebay, the best stuff in quantities coming out of Austrailia and New Zealand...even bought one of the grease guns myself.

I wondered why Austrailia and New Zealand? Seems to me that in country where there's not a 'service station' on every corner...and the corners may be hundreds of miles apart...and the country itself can be quite unhospitable, you better have a good kit, and know how to use it!

The prize is the Sutty pump; a really nicely restored one can set you back $100 - $150.
