Banjo vent Drain pipe

64BJ8 II. Good day all.
I've attached a photo showing that my two
Drain pipes from the Banjo vent on the top of the carburetors are about 3" long.

Moss's part# 451-250 says "cut to fit" They are 31" long.
Moss's part come straight and is made of copper.

Mine does not seem to be made of copper and is pre-bent.

Should I have concerns that mine are but 3" long and will dip right over the headers?

My friend Randy, another BCF member, has what seems to be hard black plastic tubes attached to his. His looks exactly like mine. Same light grey metal tube, pre-curved and about 3"long. His black extensions run down, then through the 1" hole in the front of the metal heat shield. That hole also has a rubber grommet around it.

What is the purpose of the drain pipe?
Is mine ok being as short as it is and OK to leave as is?
Finding a hard tube such as Randy's will be acceptable?
If so, what and where would I get such a tube.

I was also advised to buy another copper extension tube and use a compression fitting.

Or I could simply get Moss's part and try to figure out how to bend it in that nice shape that mine currently is, without kinking it.

What's your advise?
Roger

Hi Roger, do them just like Randy indicated and you will be good to go.---Keoke

P.S. Do you have the serrated paper washers under the Banjo fitting at the fuel bowl top to Banjo interface??.

Hi Keoke, thank you.
Glad to hear the simple way will work.
Now, where to buy such tubes.
Local hardware store only carries the clear hoses, like I used for the windshield washer fluid. Do you think those will stand up to the heat/gasoline?

Anyone suggest where I can find tubes that will not only fit snug but also handle heat and not break down from gas.

Gasoline is what travels through these run off tubes. Correct?
Cheers, Roger

Yes Randy, that looks like a good source I would select their Vitron product.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Gents:

Roger has correct parts (guessing he has fibre washers?).

The org. pipes where steel but I have not been able to source so I use Moss also.

The FIRST bend is just like Roger's pics. Second bend is beneath the float bowl (approx. 45ish degree) inboard towards motor. When reaching motor and bend to equal straight down towards two "tabs" that have "retaining" hole where the tubes pass thru. PITB /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The "tabs" are on 2 of the oil pan bolts.

For an example (fist 4 pics) visit MGTD Carb O/F pipes /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

I bought some fuel line hose at the local auto store.
Is that hole in the heat shield really meant for running the two hoses through? Photo attached.

Mine is the short tube also. How does one fasted the longer tubes to the short one?

Hi TH,

I purchased my hose at AutoZone if you have one. I tried a couple other places, but their hoses did not go small enough.

What is written on their hose:

3/16" (4.8mm) FUEL/EMISSION SAE 30R7 MADE IN USA GOODYEAR

Photo of hose attached.

Perfect fit. Just push it on.
Put a rubber grommet in the hole in the heat shield and then run the two hoses through it. It's a really tight fit because of the diameter of the hoses. But it will give you piece of mind they will not vibrate out. Roger

Hi Roger, British Car Specialists (Norm Nock) has the 1/8th inch copper tubing you need, plus the fitting that needs to go on each end of the tubing, then into the intake manifold. Those pipes (yes, there are two) are important because they safely drain the intake manifold when you over choke. Make sure the manifold is clear of any obstruction before you install them.

Johnny,I Think, What is being discussed is the Carb overflow drain tubes not the Intake Manifold items.---Fwiw--Keoke

Hi TH,

Sorry I can't say for sure. You might measure the hole. I have a bunch of grommets. I just kept trying them till I found one that fit. My guess is the grommet is 3/4" ? You can find them at the hardware stores.

Tube length, I just cut to fit. I would guess about 18" each. That would let about 3" pass through the hole.

I wish all my fixes were this easy.
Cheers, Roger
