TR2/3/3A 60 TR3 Mounting some parts

Afternoon:
Where on the engine does the front lifting eye mount and where does the torque reaction arm mount? Found no info in the manual or other sources.
Appreciate any info.

the lift eye mounts to the back side of the timing plate on the left side of the motor, where it sticks out from the block. As for a torque reaction tube, that's gotta be an add-on thing.I don't remember seeing a torque tube on any TR3s unless it was a modification. of course I could be misunderstanding what you mean by "torque tube"

I have to refer you to the Moss catalog here. I took off the eye and I don't have the torque reaction arm dampener on my car. as it shows both bolt to the engine front plate.
Oh! thats item 53,54, and 62 sorry forgot that.

I think only the TR4's had the torque reaction tube. I'm wondering if this was an upgrade by Triumph for the new TR4's? Which begs the quetion: Would they stop some kind of powerplant torque wind up on the TR3's? I havent noticed any problems in that regard but maybe thats because I'm just used to the way my 3 drives? Karl,

You are correct TR4 for the torque reaction arm. Usually find them on souped up 3's when used on the race track. Tinkerman increased the cyl. bore and is probably looking to do some high performance mods which he feels may require the torque arm. Just a guess though.

Thanks for the comments,neither item is shown in the Stanparts catalog, but as Harry pointed out, are in the Moss catalog. Now that I think about it I may not even have the torque reaction arm. Have to go looking for it. I saw it in the catalog and figured that since I have a post 60000 car it would probably be on there. And yes I have done some internal engine modifications so it might be good to have.

With a normal TR3A engine, there is no torque reaction stop. If your front motor mounts are old and soft, the engine will torque and the front air filter will hit the inner front wing when the engine rotates due to the torque and the soft mounts.

That Moss page covers all TRs up to the TR4A and shows all the parts for all these variations.

There is also a lift strap that is supposed to be located on the rear head bolt on the right hand side. It presents a problem to the average machanic so it is often lost.The problem?? The exhaust manifold had to be installed before the head was torqued down,not a common procedure. The torque stop thing was fitted to the 4 to help the under designed motor mounts last. A better fix is to use the tranny mount from a volvo 244( 1970ish) nearly identical in appearance, but 25% larger in diameter.Never did the math, but this should be close to twice the strength.
