wheel cylinder cross refrence???

Any chance that someone knows if any American (easier to find) cars used the same Dunlop Drum brakes As the Jag Saloons? Specifically the Mk 7/8s
I just can't bring myself to pay $60 for two little pieces of rubber ( wheel cylinder rebuild kits) that I have to buy 4 times, for the front drums. and I was thinking that they can't be too different from what american cars with 4 wheel drums were using, as long as they have the same diameter bore.
And wheel cylinder kits ( or even wheel cylinders) for a Chevy would be easier to find.
I'd just have to change the fittings of the brake lines from BSP to standard thread. No big problem there.

Those wheel cylinders are not like any I have seen on American cars. From my source the rear wheel cylinder kit is about 15 bucks. Double check with BarrAtt on the front kits. A 'true' girling kit originally was for a complete axle meaning four seals and dust boots.

I'm not sure of the size of the MK7&8 bore, but the 120's have a 1 1/8" cyl. I go to a local auto parts store and buy the rubber cups by the box. I think a box of 10 is about $10. Most Jag brakes are in inches plus fractions, so most parts stores have a wide range of sizes. If you need the dust excluders, they might not have them. I usually re-use those. Take a cylinder apart and look at the cup. They usually have the size molded in the rubber.

Go to an old established store with someone over 50 at the counter and he'll know exactly what you're talking about. If it's a 16 year old kid and he asks what year and car it's for, you're in for a long fruitless wait.

If you tell the kid what you want and he looks at you like the RCA dog ......

OK AlanT, I was almost thinking that that price was for the whole front end. If so then that's not all that bad. That was from Barratt. So I'll have to get a hold of them and see for sure.
Phil, that's worth a try. I'm on a first name basis with the "good" guy at our local Napa. That may be an option.
I woulden't even try a place like Autozone for something like this.
