Austin healey BJ& rear wheel cylinder problem.

I have been having a terrible problem with wheel cylinder leakage on cylinders purchased from Moss. The last one I received I installed using a new brake pipe purchased from an auto parts store with the same bubble fitting ends as per original. there was leakage around the pipe coming out of the attachment nut.

Moss tech support tells me that there are special brake pipes for austin healeys but they only sell them by a complete kit.

Now, my question is, has anyone else replaced the brake pipe going to the cylinder with one with a bubble fitting purchased from an auto parts store?

Or, are they just trying to avoid the issue by blaming the non "special" part?

I understand that compression fittings available locally may have a slightly different taper on the end than from the original brake fittings and as a result, they will not seal properly.

If you want to purchase just one brake line, try getting an original pre-bent one from Doug Reid aka mr. finespanner:

His lines fit perfectly, no adjustments necessary. And made out of original steel... which is far better for safety.

Hi Robert, for once Moss Tech is correct.The break line fittings do not use an olive [ Bubble Fitting ] but come with special flares that also capture the securing nuts that attach the lines to the cylinders. Talk to Mr Fine Spanner as Alan suggested and you will be good to go.---Fwiw-Keoke
