TR6 Rear brake wheel cylinder fitment

I'm replacing most of the components associated with the rear brakes and wondering about the rubber boot/dust cover that is located on the inboard side of the back plate and slides over the hand brake lever. After sliding it over the hand brake lever is it supposed to be located under the spring clips? I've got it there now but wow - that really makes for a tight fit on the retaining clips, and I'm concerned about whether the wheel cylinder will be able to have any movement to center itself and move when the hand brake is activated.

Good Evening. I just finished a similar project albeit on a 1960 TR3A which seems very similar to the TR6 rear brakes. The rubber dust cover fit fairly easily over the handbrake lever and then slid under the "clip" which had adequate margin/offset for this when the clips are installed in the correct order (which is a puzzle). After 2 test drives the brakes are functioning well (both hydraulic and hand brake).

Thanks for the reply and confirmation. I'll give it a try next summer when I hope to have everything put back together. It just seemed awfully tight such that the wheel cylinder wasn't free to reposition itself. I did get the backplate powder coated, which adds some thickness, which could explain some of it. Another one of those times I wish I had the Haynes manual to consult..

You're welcome........in case you are not aware, the cylinder needs proper lubrication where mounted both front and back side which enables the slight movement fore and aft (at least the TR3 does).
