TR6 Volvo HS6 Carbs on a TR6

I have put a set of Volvo HS6 on a TR6. I had to invert the carbs because there was interference between the bowls and the linkages.

The car looks allways rich.

Is there a difference between the front carb and the rear carb? Can this cause the richness problem? Sould I reinvert them and work on the linkage clearance?

Any expert advice should help.

I think the float bowls on the Volvo carbs sit at the wrong angle, which may be contributing to your problem. Don't know if there is an easy fix.

If that's the problem, shouldn't be too hard to fix. There is an insert between the bowl and the body, that sets the angle of the bowl. At least for a TR3, the inserts from a TR4A set the right angle; should be the same for a TR6.

Of course, all the usual SU ills would also apply : pistons must move absolutely freely (except for damping with the rod installed), jets can be adjusted for idle mixture, float levels must be set, float valves can't leak and so on. If they have a lot of miles on them, the needles & jets might even be worn enough to affect mixture.

But I'm wondering if the Volvo used the right springs and mixture needles. Haven't been into my Volvo carbs yet (and likely they were from a different model/engine than yours) but I'd be surprised if they were right for a TR6.

Should be no difference, mixture-wise, between front & rear carbs, so I doubt that is the problem.

last time this was posted i wrote about this. i have done this conversion so if you choose not to listen then fine, but it will not work right. the volvo float bowls sit at an angle and they sit higher on the carb so the fuel level is higher than the jet when you put them level. you need different bowls. talk to joe curto at apple hydraulics he can explain it and get the right parts cheap.

As Randy stated, the float bowls need more than just being moved to vertical. The float level is still above the bridge in the venturi when moved to level.

I will call Joe Toomorow. Often I believe that I am the only one dismantling all thoses cars and trying to understand their basics. I tought it would be simple...Like: you used Volvo's carb...Take this AUC# bowl and thoses needles and that will work! There is no rocket science in thoses cars and enthousiasts do not seem to want to understand and master the beast. They allways need Gods, Ahlaah,Buudas or Gurus for the ununderstood things.
