TR2/3/3A Upper steering column bushing

There is a few post here about steering column bushing but they all seem to address the two on the split column shaft. I am looking for something to replace the "felt" bushing at the top of my column. TRF told me to use the felt, Rimmer has one for $50.00 includes freight,,Moss wasn't sure. Did notice something about making one out of Delrin. Any information on that out there? I notice Randall mentioned it,but he is off the grid right now,,Speedy recovery..

The felt bushing that's on the split column shaft is the same as the one on the full-length steering column used on the earlier TR2 and TR3 cars...EXCEPT if you have the adjustable steering wheel on your car. Then it's different.
I got the Rimmer Brothers one for my TR2.

Hi,

Older post. How hard would it be to replace this upper steering column bushing? I am looking at the up-rated version which uses a plastic/ delrin center wrapped in superpro polyurethane. Can I get access by just pulling steering wheel or does the whole steering column need to come out?

I have a '66 TR4A. The column itself is rock solid but there is a couple/few mm's play side to side, up & down at the steering wheel

All this high tech and I was about to suggest a bit of an old leather belt for ZERO $$$ Works better than OE

Yes, you must remove the trafficator and steering wheel, and then you have access to the bushing. You will need a dental pic or similar to pull out the old seal. The felt works great, and as it wears it absorbs any "bumping" of the shaft up and down. I would imagine the delrin would develop a knock as it wears...but who knows, it may last forever??

Exactly what I needed to know. Need to get into trafficator anyway to fix the auto cancel. Two birds with one stone!

I love it when you can get more than one thing fixed if you have to pull something difficult...like the wheel and trafficator.
