Upholstery Question

I have purchased new seat covers for my 1960 BT7 but am planning on recovering all the rest of the interior myself. That is all the interior panels, dash top and face, door cards and door inserts and seat base and parcel shelf trims. I will purchase the vinyl locally.

Does anyone know how many yards of material is needed to cover those parts in a BT7? Also any recommendations on glue? The last time I did this 30 years ago, I used contact cement and it worked well, but there may have been improved products since then.

Hi Rob
I made my own. I think I ordered 5 meters of vinyl, about 5 yards 1 foot. You have to plan the cutting carefully, but that seemed to be enough for me. It depends a bit on the width. I think mine was 1.4 meters. There is a bit of stuff on this on one of my videos.

Hello Rob

Since the vinyl yardage question seems to be addressed, I'll pass along a comment on the glue. I am doing some interior work on my BT7 as well, and found the 3M Super 77 to be quite good. I've used contact cement quite a bit in the past with success, altho a little messy. The Super 77 sets up in seconds, and bonds just about everything from vinyl to carpet jute backing. It's a spray can and about ten bucks. You should probably pick up a nose mask as well, and use the spray outside if possible or in a well ventilated area.

cheers

The only problem with the 77 is it is not as good in heat as the 90. If you live in a hot area you will find the adhesive letting go after a few months if you use the 77. I'm sure that will never be an issue in Canada:friendly_wink:.

How are you going to match the color of the seat covers with locally Purchased vinyl???????

Keoke, I had originally ordered the extra vinyl along with the seat covers, but the vendor didn't get the order correct and the seats arrived without the vinyl. I could either wait another 3 weeks or look locally. My local upholstery shop has some very close matches. I think I will be happy with the final decision, which should be tomorrow.
