TR2/3/3A TR3 Rear Axle Question

I just put my rear axle back on the frame and measured from two different points on my frame to the rear hubs and came up a 1/4 inch difference. I lined up the hole in the shock plate with the bolt on the bottom of the springs. I noticed the hole was about 1/8 larger than the bolt. Can someone tell me what I did wrong?
Thanks
Greg

You measured it.
Remember that sometimes ignorance is bliss, and cheaper, too.

Nothing wrong, IMHO. Just the tolerances that were in use in those days were not what we use today.

Anything could be affecting the measurement from frame warp or twist, to spring mounting points, to worn springs, too (fill in the blank).

Wouldn't worry about it. It's been noted on this site before that the rear wheels seem to ride at dif depths in the wheel wells...mine do and the car tracks straight with no issues (no irregular tire wear, shimmy etc.)

Mine's also about a 1/4" off...never gave it much thought beyond noticing it.

:iagree:

Most restorations bring the cars waaay beyond what they were on the dealer's showroom floor!

Hey Jim,
I measured it because I was going to go off the rear wheels to get my front wheels lined up parallel to them. As you all probably can tell from some of my questions this is my first rodeo. Any thoughts on lining up the fronts?
Thanks Greg

Sure. Drive it in a straight line. Now the front wheels are straight.

The rear wheels don't actually line up with the front anyway, because the track is narrower in the rear.
