TR2/3/3A TR3 drive shaft flange issue

I'm replacing tranny rear seal at the drive shaft flange. Everything apart and I noted about 1/16 for and aft (end play) in the drive shaft flange when the nut was still tight.
Is this normal or do I need to add a thicker washer under the 1 1/4 in. nut to take up the slack? Ok, I haven't read the manual yet. It seems to me that for/aft movement would defeat the seal.
What is the foot pounds for tightening this nut?

An update. When the flange is fully seated on the tranny mainshaft (flange grooves and mainshaft grooves even) the washer (looks original) bears on the mainshaft just aft of the threads for the nut. This surface is tapered so the washer does not come in contact with the mated flange/mainshaft but rests on the mainshaft taper so no matter how hard it is torgued it allows the 1/16th end play. Is this correct or do I need another larger opening washer?
