TR2/3/3A TR3 Coil Questions

I'm going to be replacing my ignition wires. My Lucas coil has a plastic "coil nut" screwed into it. Will this coil nut be needed with my new ignition wires? Is it basically an adaptor? Also, I see in the catalog that there is a brass washer that goes with the coil nut. I don't seem to have one. Is the brass washer necessary? Thanks.

Slide the coil nut onto the wire.
Strip about 1/4 to 3/8" of insulation to expose the wire.
Stick the wire through the brass washer.
Butt the washer up against the insulation.
Separate the wire strands and spread the strands over the face of the washer.
Solder the wire to the washer.
Insert the washer, wire, and nut into the top of the coil.
Other end of the wire goes into the dist cap.

Takes longer to type this description than it does to perform the repair. Well, at the speed that I type anyway.

Since I've been running without the brass washer I guess that I'll have to get one from one of the Big 3 suppliers. If the new coil ignition wire is already soldered at the bottom, do you think I can just solder the brass washer onto it without separating and spreading the copper wire? Thanks.

Don't buy a brass washer,just make one. It's basic function is to keep the wire from pulling out of the nut. If the soldered wire you have now will not pull out of the nut, and to make a good solid contact with the business end of the coil.

To make a washer, just cut one out of a top off a can of corn or peas or whatever.

Drill a small hole in the center of the washer you have cut out and then cut the washer from the edge to the hole. This will allow you to slide the new washer onto the wire behind the existing soldered point on the wire.
