TR2/3/3A TR3 air dam

I followed pictures posted by Geo Hahn that shows a clever way of mounting an air dam on a TR3 and I fabricated a similar air dam for my TR3. I used 16 gauge sheet metal, so I hope it stands up to the wind at speed. It feels pretty stiff. In discussing it with my son, he advised that I may need to protect the bottom section of the radiator from stuff being "scooped" up by the air dam. Therefore, I attached a small piece of 1/4 inch hardware cloth (hailscreen) to protect the lower part of the radiator. I just attached it using cable ties. I have attached a picture of the air dam, but it is difficult to get a clear picture since the car sets low. Not sure I needed the air dam, but just decided to see what it does.

That picture showed up better on my screen than it does on the forum. Here is a picture I took before I drilled the holes and bolted it up. It is a bit clearer.

I think it uses simple flat stock angle brackets bolted to the radiator guard. The best benefit of this is that cool air is channeled up through the radiator instead of under the car.

The brackets for my wooden one are secured with the same bolts that fasten the lower end of the crank guides.

Bob's metal version looks more robust (I made a several copies of mine to have replacements on hand) and has a pair of bolts through the dam.

Yeah, I have a collection of old wood rulers. The NRI is a favorite but I think the best is a folding yardstick from the 'C.T. Ludwig Detective Training Correspondence School' (Kansas City). One can only imagine what else they provided: Fingerprint powder, magnifying glass, body outline chalk?

just think, if the DTCS was in business today, they would just have to provide an app for the rookies i phones.....they'd be ready to go out and investigate in no time.
