TR 4 Rear Transmission Counterweight

Hi,
I found a Rear Transmission Counterweight(looks like hanging weight with a clamp above it) in my parts box that may have been originally installed on my TR4 that was not put back on. Is this necessary or useful to re-attach?
Or was this only on TR3s?
Thanks

If the rubber insert is in good shape, it might be worth installing. It was supposed to reduce gearshift vibration at certain speeds; and AFAIK only used on some TR4s. TR3s have a shorter lever and hence less trouble with it vibrating.

Sounds like a potential VTR event: the 10 lb counterweight hurl

That's a good use for the darn things. I keep putting mine back on the car but I really wonder why I do it. I hope to never be back into my car in that area agin but if I am it will come off.

Thanks for the recommendations/comments.
I think I will use it as a canoe anchor and now probably get another 2miles per gallon!
Cheers

I bought a wrecked parts TR4A w/od that had this weight, so they were still being used in '66, FWIW.

Had one on my TR4A as well.

It's part number 144314 for non-overdrive and 132604 for overdrive in the TR4A SPC - Weight and bush assembly, vibration damper!

I think if Triumph could have saved that money to lower the vehicle price or used it for Gross Profit they would have.

I will take it if it is still rubber & not solid
