I have seen pictures of a pair of SUs installed on a Spitfire 1500. What vehicle is the source for the intake manifold?

Thanks,

Gary

Euro-spec Spitfires had SUs. I brought a set back with manifold, linkage etc from the UK and eventually sold them off on ebay. I think Ted may be doing something similar.

The setup is from European Spitfire 1500s. As above, Ted can source them for you. They also surface on eBay frequently but the complete setup is relatively expensive.

Make sure when you find a setup, it includes the linkage.

Plan on spending $250-300 for manifold and carbs. Then add another $100 for good rebuild kits with jets and needles. More if you have to replace throttle shafts. You can spend $300-500 to pay someone to rebuild them for you.

Add the alcohol resistant floats. Look to Joe Curto for the parts. Ted usually has the manifolds and carbs, don't know about parts.

I got the set-up from TSI. It took a while- I imagine waiting for the parts to show to his source. What a difference the SUs make- from about 48 hp to 70.

70? Really?
I've got a set waiting to install. Perhaps as soon as both my sons go off to college I'll go ahead and install them!

I've gotta set here. I had a "problem" with them that turned out to be a bad gas cap.

70 sounds low actually, the 1300cc herald engine with a single carb was rated at 60hp. with a decent road cam, a bump in compression ratio (which is a large part of the reason the US 1500 has such low hp) and properly set up carbs, 70++ should not be hard to get.

To get up to 70 HP is going to require a higher than standard compression and maybe a better cam, along with the twin carbs.

Also, you can install either the European HS4 set (diagonal bolting), or the 1300 HS2 set (vertical bolting).

Many used to run the 1300 set on their 1500 engine because pre-web, it was kinda hard getting hold of the HS4 sets.
