Stock Bugeye Mirrors.

I have two Bugeyes, and two different mirrors. Which one is stock? Were there variations? This is the mirror I have on my restored Bugeye.

And here is an unrestored mirror I have on my second Bugeye.I don't know if it matters, but the restored mirror is on my 1960 Bugeye, and the unrestored mirror is off of my 1958 Bugeye.

Mine is like the second. Its chassis tag is somewhere in the AN5L-36000 range if that helps.

Mirror one is what came on my Mk 2 Sprite.

To answer your question. According to BMC factory parts manual, mirror number one was part 14A-5473, this mirror came on early cars (Bugeye’s). When supply expired they began to use mirror number two which is part number HAN 6932. Mark II Sprite from commission number H-AN7-28148 on used mirror number two part number HAN 6932. For Midgets MK1 from commission number G_AN2-1818476 on used mirror number two part number AHA 6932.

So, mirror one stock for Bugeyes, correct? Were the second mirrors installed on any of the Sprite Mark 1 (Bugeyes), or is it stricktly for later Sprites?
I am trying to make sure everything is correct before I sell off my second Bugeye this summer. By the way, how do you get the mirror our of the second mirror?

When mirror number one that was manufacture by Eversure’s stock was depleted mirror number two was used. Mirror number one’s part number is14A-5473. Mirror number two’s part number is HAN-6932. There is no notation of when the production brake with the Bugeye as to when they started to use the second mirror. But they do show MK1 Midgets and MKII Sprites were equipped with mirror number one also. MK1 Midgets had mirror number one up to production 18476, and Sprite MKII had was up to production date 28148 then they went to mirror number two. Truthfully it doesn’t make a whole heck of a lot of difference unless you were competing in a notional concours d’Elegance championship where the judges would have all the factory documentation to verify production numbers and what should be on the car base on the factory BMC factory parts catalog. Tell you the truth my friend Gundy’s car has an Amco mirror that’s very cool, it has a day and night lever, now that’s very rare.

The mirror on my Bugeye is a Lucas day/night mirror.
It has "Lucas" on the tab you flip for the day/night selection.
It looks more like mirror #1 in the examples. It's ever so slightly tinted, like my windshield. I've not seen another
but it's nice rare or not.

My Midget is Number 18259 and still has Mirror #1 if that helps.

Sorry about that Gundy, most of your accessories were Amco thought your mirror was too. I should pay closer attention…..I believe you can file that mirror in the rare folder in my view!

Scout, you fall into mirror number one category base on the factory manual and your chassis number...

Yep, my car is just over 200 below the cutoff and still has the original mirror, so I would say the manual is probably pretty accurate.
