sticking speedometer

I have a 78 Spitfire with 58,000 actual miles on it. For reasons to envolved to get into I had it stored in my garage for the last 20 years. I recentaly brought it out and after new tires, brakes, clutch slave cylinder and other goodies I thought all was good to go. After 60 miles the speedometer is sticking. 0 to 40 is ok after that it seems to be slow and will not go past 50. When stopping it will drop back to 0. Any good ideas on how to repair it.

I took the Speedo housing apart on my TR4 and sprayed the internals clean with WD-40. It works great now. Taking yours apart may identify what is causing it to stick. Could be a bug that crawled in there or spider web.

From the manual:
2) The spindle may not move freely due to the disk binding against an obstruction. In this
case the pointer is stuck in one place or will not rise above a certain level.
