carburettor air valve sticking

I discovered the air valve was not returning downward on the rear carb. I then for some reason unscrewed the damper and the valve fell down. So I removed some oil out of the damper thinking it may have been over-filled, I guess it may have been over-filled I dunno. I know this is the carb that has the vac leak at the shaft but I have never had the problem with the valve sticking. The PO had the carbs rebuilt but they missed the shaft leak. I am wondering if a throttle shaft leak could cause the air valve to stick. Any ideas? It seems to be running well now so I could have had to much oil in the damper if that's possible.

I suggest you examine the rubber diaphragm the attaches the air valve. The diaphragm is responsible for holding the air valve in a concentric position. You may need to replace the diaphragm. Its not likely that the damper is so sticky as to interfere with the drop of the air valve but I guess anything is possible.

Sounds like a bent damper, swap them front to rear and see if the front carb sticks. The oil level has nothing to do with it, the damper works in one direction.

The only exception might be if the vent hole is closed or plugged somehow. But I agree, a bent damper rod is more likely.
