Wedge quad carb tr7???

I assume your talking about twin webers that have individual runners. They can make good power, but need constant tinkering. A variation of as little as 20 degrees in outside temperature can have a dramatic effect on how they run. A better carb conversion for street use would be to swap out the ZS carbs for SU carbs. My favorites are the 1.75" SU found on the early Datsun 240Z.

I see no reason why you couldn't use 4 motorcycle carbs. You'd have to do a lot of fabrication for manifold, linkages, etc. When it's all said and done (and if someone else didn't ask you already), I'd imagine you might ask yourself "why did I do that?"

With enough work I would imagine you could get a pig to fly through the air too. In order to see the benefit of 4 carbs, I would have to think this would have be a one very highly modified TR7 engine.

Yes, indeed.

Do you have any info on the Datsun SU swap? I have a buddy that has piles of those.

Great photo, John, I love it!

The dual SUs would get my vote (if you really must get rid of the ZS). Should just bolt right onto the manifold, although you might need to fab some linkage, etc.

But ISTR the 240Z carbs were actually made by Hitachi, not SU. Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery.

The early Hitachi licensed carbs look just like any other SU. Those are the ones you want. The later Hitachis look like coffee cans. They do bolt right up and yes you need to make up some linkage pieces. They are jetted for a 2.4 liter, so add a cam and headers to the combo and you have a sweet performing TR7. I had one like that years ago, and it was a lot of fun. Almost as much fun as the dolly sprint powered TR7 I had, but not nearly as much fun as any of the 8s.

Todd, I still have an extra linkage piece from when I put them on my yellow TR7 with the Datsun carbs.
