There's no doubt in my mind that the e car is capable of going 'stupid fast'! I would love to take a drive in it.

I keep hearing that but check the mileage stickers on the new cars Jack. The 5 speeds always do better. You have to lose power in the torque converter and running the pump. Even with a lock up converter you are still running the pump and have the extra weight of the automatic. Plus changing a clutch is a piece of cake compared the to the financial time bomb of an automatic transmission.

I mostly agree Kim, but, My Mazda 6 actually is rated better with the 6 speed auto than the 5 speed manual - course I have the 5 speed cause it's way more fun. I also recall that later Saabs had more reliable auto boxes than manual. (Generally I think you're right though)

Or, or racers.

8 speeds forward is a great improvement.

A lot of today's automatics are computer controlled "standards." They have clutches, instead of torque converters. Still... I'll take the manual please.

Had a big bad 1966 Mustang with a standard. Was really a pain in stop and go trafic. An automatic would have been real nice. I see both sides.

Acura with automatic

Truck and Miss Agatha with standard. No grandkids driving my toys, lol

An automatic is essential when you have a screaming 4 and 6 year old in the back seat.

I have torn into a couple and they do have clutches but there is a lot more going in there besides two gears spinning to make the car move.
I got a rivergate adapter plate and a datsun 210 automatic that mates up to it. That is for if my knees get worse and I need replacements or whatever, but not until then.

The "corvette " engine is the older style and the automatic installed will defininite take power away. The new trannys are very large. Therefore the width will eat up interior room. another reason these V-8 conversions use A/Ts. No place left to have a clutch pedal confortably.

Also most people use a FORD V-8 since they are 7" narrower. Very nice car tho!
I just don't understand why the rubber bumbers ?? on a car that so much detail was done
