TR6 Ok if T.O. bearing is spinning while clutch is engaged??

oh hey you guys still here??!!?? thank god! my 6 is out of the garage for the first time in 3 years.. a body/interior cosmetics project that went slightly off schedule (and budget!)

anyhow.. first thing i noticed while having it on the road is the whirring noise usually assoc with the clutch throwout bearing riding against the clutch pressure plate.
this is happening while clutch is ENGAGED. question I have is: is it ok?? or is this going to eventually damage the bearing?

thanks --steve

It's probably common for the bearing to spin occasionally even when the clutch is engaged, but a whirring noise is not normal and would indicate a bad bearing. However, I've driven many miles with a noisy TO bearing. Does the noise go away or change if you put a slight pressure on the pedal? May not be the TO bearing.

On a TR6, the TOB is supposed to run all the time. If what you're hearing is actually the bearing, it's probably good for at least a year yet.
But if you're hearing the bearing slide against the pressure plate,I'd do some thing about it sooner rather than later. It may get worse rapidly.

I tried a couple things and got the noise down significantly. The noise is almost sporadic now. Before it was constant (regardless of pedal pressure), now it's just maybe 10% of the time. I moved the lever which connects to the slave cyl back/forth in case it was getting stuck or hung up on something on the inside. The gearbox was about 1/3-1/2 quart short of fluid, so I made sure that was filled. Not sure if either of those things made a difference, or if just driving it more has lessened the noise.

Anyways.. onto the fuel gauge.... always showing Full even when no gas in the tank.

Thanks guys for your response.

If the gauge goes to empty with the key off, most likely the gauge is OK. Pull the sender wire off at the tank. If the gauge goes to empty, the sender is bad. If not,try pulling it off at the gauge.

Fuel sender was showing Full because I had the wires reversed. After addressing that, I could not get the gauge to show correct level. I pulled the sender and determined it was faulty as moving the arm to the 'full' position only moved the gauge to 1/2 full.
