crankshaft (rear) bearing leak

Ok, I am new here and I just bought a 69 midget, big leak at the junction rear engine gear box. From what I read, I should check if there is a negative pressure in the engine, right?
Second, any way to fix that problem without having to remove the engine?
Third, the brakes: front discs back drums, they are not spongy but the pedal goes almost to the floor, any way to adjust it?
Thanks everybody, by the way I am French living in southern PA almost on the MD border and looking into some MG buddys.

Hello,

There is no seal at the rear of the crankshaft and to minimize leaks the crankcase pressure has to be negative. This can be achieved through the use of a properly functioning PCV system. The factory system works great, but many people choose to remove the system in an ill-fated attempt to improve performance. Make sure all parts of the PCV system are in place and working properly.

The first thing to check on the brakes is the adjustment of the rear drum brakes. If the rear brakes aren't adjusted properly the pedal will go a long ways before any braking action occurs.
