Next Steps for BN1 restoration and a few questions

Well after some time off due to collections “need to collect some more funds” I’m back working on the 100.

Next steps are;

Mate Transmission and Engine now that both are all rebuilt
Install engine and trans after a two year separation
Install new wiring harness
Install Dynamat installation

Which brings me to a few questions;

Any suggestions on a clutch and source? Have used Moss in the past with good results but wanted to get your opinions?

Any pointers to the best source for a wiring harness?

Any reason to do wiring or the Dynamat one before the other?

For most of my cars in the past I have used "Healey Surgeons" in Maryland. They are a small independant business, have had no problems with quality..plus they can answer any questions you have if you run into a "snag".

I prefer to support small businesses..

A good place to get the clutch, disc, pilot bearing, & throwout bearing. They are a Moss source but also have other suppliers, & know who supplies the best parts:
https://www.britishcarspecialists.com

Brit Wiring https://www.britishwiring.com
Has very good harnesses, be sure to get all of the needed pieces, parts, & fittings. Although they recently changed ownership, the harnesses are actually made in the UK & as far as I know, the same high quality. If you don't need absolutely original concours construction, go with the overbraided harness with plastic wire insulation rather than the original overbraided with cloth braid over rubber wire insulation. Where ever you get the harness, a special tool to squeeze the barrel connectors together (bullets into sleeves) is highly recommended.

Do the wiring after the Dynamat & any finish painting & definitely before the engine, transmission, radiator, & other stuff go in. Some of the wiring would be almost impossible if you did it later.

Quick follow up....

Dynamat and Wiring harness going in, I'll get some pic's out when completed. I was wondering if anyone had luck finding the wire harness chassis clips at a local source rather that via typical mail order?

You never know what lurks in the aisles of your local auto shop?

Thanks in advance....
Michael.

Re: Next Steps for BN1 restoration and a few quest

It depends on how original you want the car to be. The "correct" clips, profile & finish, for your particular model are pretty specialized. Early cars had different clips than later cars. If you just want clips, nearly anything will work.
D

A quote from John Loftus:
According to the concours guidelines, the 100 clips were yellow zinc plated with semi-circular ends. Early BN4's were all yellow zinc plated with semi-circular ends. From late 100/6s onward the clips were clear zinc-plate with arched ends (sharp corners where the arched ends meet the straight sides).

Thanks Dave..... I ordered some from Moss so I'll go with those for now.
