My Lump! & Transmission questions

Here's my 1275 cc of pure screaming madness! lol! I've only taken off the valve cover but the rockers look pretty clean as does the oil. When I took of the ribcase the clutch disc also looked pretty new. So good. But I did find something weird in the bottom of the bell housing. It looks like broken bits of throwout bearing or something. The existing TO bearing is OK, tho'. Maybe its an old fossilised rubber grommet or something... I dunno? Any guesses? I'll try and post some photos.

Transmission... The bits I was talking about were right under the shaft in a neat little pile.

I just found the same in my Ribcase John, I went with old throwout bearing because of the carbon like texture. Someone may have replaced it, but not token the old stuff out?

I think the clue to what that maybe is in the picture you attached. Take a look at the oval throw out fork hole plug on the lower right side of the bell housing,

Is that not fosalized rubber dust cover bits from the side of the bell housing?

I tought the same thing... that it might be from that plug, but it sure is hard and carbon like, as if from a TO bearing. I dunno!

Looks like old disintegrated TO bearing material to me too, though I have had some pretty well hardened rubber cover plug material in the past also!!

It's just hard to believe someone changed out a TO bearing and didn't remove the old crapola.

I'll try matching up the pieces and see if they match that plug. It would make me feel better to know from where it came.

theres nothing in there but the rubber plugs that could do that...your bearing is still ok ...
dont worry bout it  ...zimmmy

The reason its hard is that the rubber is probley loaded withc arbon to make it black and stablize it just like a tire as it heats up and the addtion of time fossilzing it the elastomers break down
presto fossilized rubber.

I did take another look at the "bits" today. They don't match up with the missing plug. They are much harder and more carbon like, like a TO bearing. The left over rubber that still is in the plug has been long exposed to oil and almost goo at this time.

Weird.
