Weight of BJ7 Transmission/Overdrive

Has anyone got a shop manual to advise as to the above, as I know the figure is in there but I can't find my reprint.
We changed to a Toyota 5 speed some years ago, and have kept the original transmission and overdrive. I'm going to have to move the tranny et al to a different storage location, and would appreciate knowing what the original manual advised as to its weight - can two old guys move it in to the back of the pickup, or should I get an engine hoist? Thanks, Doug

My recollection is that it weighs around 120 lbs. I don't think you will find the weight listed in any manual.

The weight is shown in the original shop manual and its reprints, and my memory is the same as yours (about 120 pounds) but surely to goodness someone has a manual and could advise (?). Doug

For reference, the side shifter, compared to a (stronger...) MGC xmsn. I recorded these weights when I reverted back to the s/s trans from the MGC box I'd fitted back in the 80s... > Healey-at-home / gearbox work / transmission installation | spcarsplus.com photo gallery <

s/shift (complete w/bellhousing, shift lever & overdrive: 116.6 Lbs
MGC: 85.8 Lbs

While I'm at it, a couple of flywheel weights.
BJ8: 26.8 Lbs
"shaved" (to work w/MGC xmsn): 20.2 Lbs

Center Shift Transmission is more unwieldy than heavy; I managed R&Rs on my own many times but an extra pair of hands is always helpful. Best advice, save back and get some help with that thing.

Yay! Found my shop manual reprint!
And - at the end of 'General Data' - it provides the following "Weights of Components"
Engine: 611 pounds; Gearbox, standard: 79.5 pounds; Gearbox, with overdrive: 117 pounds; Rear axle: 166 pounds.
We'll try loading it on Monday; wife will come lend a hand as well. Back protection will be paramount.

It is a few years ago now, but this old fogey managed it on his own, getting it out of the car, including the clutch housing and overdrive and with the use of a low level 4 wheeled trolley to move it into the garage annex. I removed the clutch housing and lifted the rest into the boot ( trunk) of my car to take it around to a Garage mechanic.
The upshot is that two should be able to move it without contracting a hernia. 😖
