Anyone try electric windows and power locks on their Triumph?

I figure since I want to redo the interior anyway, I might as well consider it, and was wondering about the pros and cons...

My guess is that adding the power locks and windows would be cost prohibitive, and considering the ease of operation (and that the car is easy to reach across,) I'm not sure if the cost and pain of installation really benefits that much.

In any event, I like my old cars old, and my new cars new. Part of the charm of the TRs is that they have no creature comforts (and they make you feel alive...cold, but alive!)

Power windows sounds like a good mod. especially if you use a card or some other means to activate a parking lot on a daily basis. The door locks would be jazzy if you are impressing a date but other wise a walk around may be as impressive if not more so /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Really, there is not much distance to reach across to lock the doors.

Once upon a time it might have been a weight issue. Now, most electric lift window systems can be lighter than a manual version. If you've upgraded your electrical capabilities already than go for it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I have no problem encouraging people to spend their money.

I have to agree with SammyB. I thought about putting in power windows/locks when I redid my interior but decided against it. Wanted to keep as much of the old charm as I could. I would rather spend my money on something to improve performance or looks. Just my 2 cents worth even though my wife will only give me a penny for my thoughts.

Oh I already spent plenty on performance. I just thought it might be neat.

The units are small, and the wiring is fairly easy. The cost is actually pretty low - you can get power locks for about $20 a pop as an fyi.

The new door panels are solid - you have to cut out the holes for door handle and winder, so I thought it might look ok with a couple of switches. I want a subtle mod, not bling bling.

Just at the thinking stage right now. The interior has to wait until the car comes back from the shop regardless. I wondered if anyone had done it.

Me neither. My top is down most of the summer anyways.

For the gee whiz factor, it may be neat. I wouldn't do it tho... Just buy a Stag, they all came with power windows! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif As for modern cars, my DD has power everythig, and heated seats! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I added electric windows to my TR8. Its was a pretty straigtforward install. I can say that if I were to do it over again, I probably wouldn't add them. The motors tend to be weak and if there is any resistance, then, the window may stop on its way up (w/o manual help). I may try and change the motors out in the future to something a bit stronger.
Just my experience though!

Now a window remote would be good for those "sporty" days that you feel like leaping in without bothering to even open the door ....
