fuel pressure problem

After replacing my fuel pump on my '76 MBG, I drove it to the Montreal F1 race last month from my home here on the north shore of Lake Huron without any problems(10 hours each way). I then drove it to Indianapolis (12 hours) for the F1 race without problem. However on the return trip I was having a fuel delivery problem. I limped the vehickle to a service station and when I filled the tank I didn't have a problem the rest of the way home. I did not have the problem again until last week when suddenly once again the fuel was not being pushed through the system. I syphoned the fuel through and didn't have the problem again until today. I did however change the hoses, filter and clamps. Today the car again sputtered to a stop and I again had to suck the gas through the fuel filter. Again it is working well.
Can anyone suggest what might be happening here and what I can do to correct the problem?

There's a filter on the end of the pickup in the tank...if the tank has any trash in it, it may be clogging that filter when the tank gets low....if you can take the sending unit out & look up inside with a mirror & light, you might be able to see an obstruction.

If you end up having the tank cleaned, make sure they remove that little filter before boiling the tank.
