TR2/3/3A Fired up the TR3...Red light on?

Started the car for the first time this year seems to be runing strong but the red light stays on... oil pressure is good. Where should I check first?

Suspect your regulator is stuck. Try wiping some cardboard through the contacts (Disconnect the battery first). Also check all connections in the charging system to make sure they are good.

No. LOL. Actually I have a black cable running off the Neg post and an orange cable running off the POS to remind me its positive ground.

I'm a little confused. Perhaps I'm not understanding you.

Most black cables are negative,which would go to the small post of the battery and most green, red, orange, yellow cables are positive, which would go to the large post on the battery. HOWEVER, if your car is still positive groud, not been changed, then you might have the cables hooked up backwards.

Here is a diagnostic that I copied from a post on the forum that explains how the red ignition warning light functions:

"HOW THE IGNITION WARNING LIGHT WORKS:

The yellow wire is not hot when ignition is switched on, hot when engine running).

The white wire should be hot when the ignition is switched on AND when engine running.

In case you don't know... with the engine running both wires to the bulb (yellow & white) are hot with approximately the same voltage -- under this condition the bulb is out. It is when one or the other has a lower voltage (or no voltage) that the bulb glows."

As a believer in checking the simple things first, make sure you have good connections throughout the circuit.

I just spray bombed flat black the cable that goes to the starter etc. and used an orange coloured cable for POS ground.

This can also be sticking generator brushes.If you are going to have a generator, you should get used to taking it off once in a while for a little check over.This is the most troublesome bit on any Tr IMHO.....Any of the mounts can fail at any time ,look them over carefully when you pull off the gen.Be honest guys ,how many of us REALLY oil that rear bushing ever 500 as the manual suggests???Allways go with some grade 8 hardware and nyloc nuts. Once you put in new brushes you may have to re-polarize the unit.Just take a 12volt wire to the small spade with the engine at 1500rpm it will promptly peg the gage if all is well.
